Description
This training has been approved for 8 hours credit toward the 32-hr. recertification requirement for Lead Homicide Investigators.
The course will examine both procedural and substantive law issues of significance to patrol officers and investigators. The program will focus on select case law and statutes affecting Interviews and Interrogations, Identification Procedures, the Illinois Criminal Code, the Illinois Vehicle Code, and the Illinois Juvenile Court Act. Law Enforcement Issues regarding Medical Marijuana and Concealed Carry will also be addressed.
Crucial provisions of the recently enacted Police Community Relations Improvement Act that impact officers in the performance of their duties will be closely examined, including officer worn body cameras, the prohibition on choke holds, the requirement to provide stop receipts to persons subject to Terry stops in certain circumstances, and the obligation to prepare a report under the newly amended traffic and pedestrian stop statistical study when a pedestrian is subject to a “detention.”
Note: In order to devote adequate time to the the selected topics, this program will not cover Search & Seizure. All issues relating to Search & Seizure will be examined in one-day formats offered multiple times throughout the training year.
