Sgt. Matthew Crane (ret.)

Matthew Crane worked at the Champaign Police Department for 26 years as a patrol officer and sergeant, and he retired in 2026.  In his last 5 years, he was the department’s training sergeant who oversaw police officer hiring and background investigations.  During that time, the department was rebuilding after COVID, and it needed to find, evaluate, and vet new staff as quickly as it could.  Matthew can share his experience with changes to Illinois law during that time and how that has affected background investigations.
