Gail Sullivan

Gail Sullivan graduated from Loyola University (BA) and DePaul University (MA) with honors.  She has worked in the fields of psychology and criminal justice for the past three decades.  Gail has held the position of Executive Director of a premier children’s agency that was the first in Illinois to serve the needs of sexually problematic children.  She has consulted to numerous public and private organizations in the area of trauma based reactions to stress.  Because of her expertise, she has served on the State’s Attorney Task Force for the Mass Molestation of Children and The Cook County Child Death Review Team.

Gail has developed curricula that meet state requirements for the certification of Illinois juvenile officers and teaches in the 32-hour Basic Juvenile Officer course offered by Western Illinois University.  She has presented law enforcement training to over 150 police jurisdictions throughout the Midwest.  She is a trainer for the Cook County Adult Probation Department, presenting and developing mandated training.  Gail has been a keynote speaker for numerous law enforcement and criminal justice associations nationwide and a conference presenter for law enforcement, corrections, probation, and criminal justice practitioners.

Gail lives in Chicago with her son, continuing to write and present in the areas of trauma based interactions for law enforcement, cultural diversity, multigenerational communication, sex offenders, ethics, sexual harassment prevention, crisis intervention, female brain functioning and violence, and numerous other aspects of law enforcement and criminal justice.  She has also developed a stress reduction curriculum for correction officers that has been presented nationwide. She is currently exploring research directed at gender differences in stress as it relates to police and correctional officers and is currently writing a book on Law Enforcement Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Suicide.
