Description
Police interactions with citizens are in the national spotlight. What previously would not have made the local paper now makes national news. Officers need tools to effectively engage citizens in a professional manner without compromising their own safety in the process. Instruction will include guided discussions, video analysis, and case studies. Participants will also be introduced to the Think CLEAR Approach to Law Enforcement Professionalism:
Communication
Legal Authority
Emotional Intelligence
Adaptive Decision Making
Respect Unconditionally
The goal of Think CLEAR is to increase officer safety while simultaneously improving the quality of contacts with the public. Think CLEAR is an approach, rather than a framework, a model, or a checklist, because it is not rigid or sequential and all the elements are interrelated. It is designed to be a flexible approach to officer/citizen encounters and help officers focus on individual areas of performance. It can also serve as an effective evaluative tool for FTOs and Trainers. By addressing the areas that most often lead to officers “going viral”, we can enhance their physical and career survival — a true win/win for the modern day law enforcement professional.
