Bruce Herring

Bruce Herring joined the Institute of Police Technology and Management in 1992 as a Training Specialist responsible for development and presentation of training programs in the criminal investigative field. In 1994, he assumed the position as Director for this program.

Mr. Herring came to IPTM after a distinguished career with the United States Air Force. During his 23-year career, he served as a Security Police Patrolman and Investigator, Major Command Leadership School Instructor and Special Agent with the AF Office of Special Investigations.

The last four years of Mr. Herring’s AF career were spent instructing new and senior investigators in all aspects of the Forensic Sciences and as Director of Advanced Training for special investigative branches of OSI. The four years prior to Mr. Herring’s last assignment were spent as a Forensic Consultant to over 150 OSI Special Agents located in seven Southeastern states and Central America. While in this position he was directly responsible for the application of the forensic sciences to all criminal, fraud, and counter intelligence investigations within his area of responsibility.

Mr. Herring has provided seminars to civilian law enforcement agencies, federal investigative agencies, both in the United States and overseas, emergency room physicians and lawyers in basic and advanced crime scene processing, death investigations, forensic hypnosis, and forensic medicine. In addition, he has reviewed and provided guidance in over 100 active/cold case homicides a year for the last 16 years for police agencies nationwide.

Mr. Herring has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice (Troy State University), a Master of Forensic Science Degree (George Washington University) and a Forensic Medicine Fellowship (Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, Walter Reed Army Medical Center). Mr. Herring has specialized training in Forensic Anthropology, Forensic Archeology, Aerospace Pathology, Forensic Pathology, Forensic Odontology, Forensic Hypnosis and Post Blast Investigations. He is a fellow in the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.
