Cyndy Velazquez

Deputy Chief Cyndy Velazquez has been a police officer in the Village of Lombard, Illinois for over 27 years.  Cyndy graduated from the Chicago Police Academy in 1990, becoming the first female recipient of the Outstanding Recruit Award.  Working her way through the ranks, she served as a patrol officer, detective, patrol sergeant, patrol lieutenant and Commander of the Investigations Unit.  Cyndy is currently the Commander for the DuPage County Major Crimes Task Force.  She was recently promoted to Deputy Chief becoming Lombard’s first female to hold that rank.

Deputy Chief Velazquez has a Master’s Degree in Organizational Behavior, a Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement Administration, and completed the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.  She is a defensive tactics and physical fitness instructor at the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy (SLEA) where she was named Instructor of the Year in 2013.  She has also taught Rape Prevention.

Deputy Chief Velazquez served in the United States Army and received the Outstanding Squad Leader Award.  As a lead instructor for Calibre Press, she teaches Women in Command, Female Enforcers, and Emotional Survival for Female Officers.
