This course is certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.
This course meets state guidelines for the following mandated subject areas:
- Law Update (annual)
- Use of Force (annual)
This course was developed to assist officers from smaller agencies who lack easy access to qualified firearms instructors. All course instructors are Master Firearms Instructors certified through the University of Illinois Police Training Institute. They will cover range and safety protocols, weapon presentation, shooting positions, marksmanship, tactical reloading, malfunction drills, and analysis of common shooting deficiencies. Course instruction will allow ample time for diagnosis and correction of individual problems associated with officer pistol skills.
At the end of the day, each student will shoot the 50-Round State Qualification course of fire. A final, validated score sheet will be provided to the student’s employing agency for internal documentation and for submission to the Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. The instructional staff will distribute and review the State Board’s Use of Force Brochure (revised 10/2016) for annual compliance.
Note: Each student must provide 300 rounds of pistol ammunition.
