Description

This 32-hour curriculum has been designed to provide new instructors with the skills needed to become dynamic, effective trainers.  In this highly interactive and participatory program, students will be introduced to a multitude of techniques that can be used successfully within traditional law enforcement environments and applications, including the classroom, field operations, simulated scenes, scenario-based training, and assessments.

Students are strongly encouraged to bring a working computer to the course with PowerPoint software or a similar presentation software. This 32-hour course requires after class preparation on Tuesday – Thursday evenings.

Topics

  • Instructing to generational/cultural differences, implicit bias
  • Introduction of partner officer/building trust/legitimacy and credibility statements
  • 2-minute impromptu speeches
  • Introduction and instructions for demonstrating speeches
  • Introduction to public speaking
  • Small group discussion, police policy updates/changes, case reviews
  • 5-minute demonstration speech
  • Adult learning principles
  • Presentation of classroom training session 10-minute
  • Classroom management
  • Planning & designing lesson plans & instruction
  • 20-minute, individual law enforcement block of instruction/scenario based
  • ILETSB instructor application Form C, Form A-2, Online-Learning Network and the Executive Institute
  • Authentic officer wellness
