Description

This training has been approved for 8 hours credit toward the 32-hr. recertification requirement for Lead Homicide Investigators.

This course will assist detectives, supervisors, gang officers, homicide investigators, and uniformed patrol officers in developing, cultivating, and safely utilizing confidential informants (C.I.’s) when conducting criminal investigations under the direction and within the policy guidelines of their agencies.  Students will acquire the knowledge and skill level needed to effectively and professionally utilize informants during patrol duties, street-level operations, complex criminal investigations, and anti-terrorism operations.

From first time offenders to high level criminal organizations and terrorist groups, the mentality of those heavily involved in today’s most serious crimes is rapidly changing.  How law enforcement successfully penetrates the various levels of a criminal organization or terrorist group has a great deal to do with gathering real-time intelligence that can only be gathered by informants. When dealing with highly devoted and immersed criminals, law enforcement professionals trained in properly handling C.I.’s are more effective in quickly gathering crucial intelligence.  From drug and cash seizures to solving the most difficult cases such as homicides, utilizing C.I.’s is an essential tool that must be handled safely to protect the operation, the agency, and the integrity of the handler.

This project is supported by funds from the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Fiscal Year 2016 Homeland Security Grant Program, CFDA #97.067.
