Description

Flyer and Certification Standards

Mobile Team Unit 12 will offer the State of Illinois mandated certification for narcotic detection canines on Oct. 2 and 3 at the ILEAS Training Center in Urbana.

Participating K9 teams will be required to attend one of these days to complete their certification. Each K9 team will be required to certify to the minimum standards set forth by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. (See attached standards.)

Each K9 will be tested on the odors of the following substances:

  • cocaine
  • crack cocaine
  • heroin
  • cannabis
  • methamphetamine

The certification will be conducted in three phrases to include vehicles, building, and parcel/package/luggage — with teams moving from phase to phase with ample time to rest and break their dogs.

The certification will take place regardless of weather conditions. Participating teams should be prepared to work in rainy or hot conditions and are required to provide the basic equipment, i.e. collar, lead and reward (unless verbal reward is used).

Note:  A limited number of spots are available for out-of-region K9 teams on a first-come, first-served basis.
